Source: Tampa Tribune, Fla.存倉Sept. 20--CLEARWATER -- The jury has begun deliberating in the case of Jennifer Mee, who gained notoriety as the "Hiccup Girl" but now faces a first-degree murder charge and a possible life prison sentence.Jurors began weighing the evidence at 6:06 p.m.Mee, 22, is accused of orchestrating a robbery that left 22-year-old Shannon Griffin dead in October 2010.After she met Griffin on a social networking website, Mee arranged for him to meet her roommates, Laron Raiford and Lamont Newton, in an alley in St. Petersburg, ostensibly to buy marijuana, authorities say. Instead, they tried to rob him. Griffin resisted, and Raiford shot him, according to police.The jury has to decide whether Mee is guilty of first-degree murder, accessory after the fact or manslaughter. The murder charge carries a mandatory life sentence. Accessory after the fact carries a sentence of as much as 30 years and manslaughter a sentence of as much as 15 years.The reason the accessory charge carries a lengthy sentence in this case is because the crime in which Mee has been accused is first-degree murder, a capital felony.Manslaughter, in comparison, is a second-degree felony, and there is not necessarily an intent to kill in such crimes.In his closing arguments today, Assistant State Attorney Christopher LaBruzzo reminded jurors of the most damaging evidence, delivered by Mee herself, who admitted in two tapes that she had set up the robbery.Becaus迷你倉 she had arranged a crime that resulted in a person's death, Mee is as guilty as the person who pulled the trigger under Florida law, prosecutors say.Before the case went to the jury, John Trevena, Mee's defense attorney, tried to cast aspersions on a former friend of Mee's, who lived in the same apartment as the other three.During his opening statements on Wednesday, Trevena suggested a more likely murder suspect was Jennifer Charron, Raiford's girlfriend.Noting that Charron worked as a prostitute, Trevena said she was the one who met Griffin in the alley and that Raiford happened upon the two. Enraged, Raiford shot Griffin, Trevena said.Police found an opened condom wrapper near Griffin's body in the alley, and his pants were pulled down below his crotch.However, Trevena failed to elicit his rendition of events from Charron when she took the stand this morning. While she acknowledged she performed certain sex acts for money at a spa where she worked, she did not say she met Griffin in the alley.Mee became known to millions as the "Hiccup Girl" in 2007. Then a 15-year-old high school student from St. Petersburg, Mee's inability to stop hiccuping became a national story.
