Source: Pioneer Press, St.自存倉 Paul, Minn.Oct. 03--Scheduling the 2015 Minnesota State High School League's football state tournaments remains a challenge. The MSHSL's board of directors met Thursday at league headquarters in Brooklyn Center and addressed the issue, but tabled it until their December meeting to give them time to consider the many scenarios and questions.TCF Bank Stadium is not available to the MSHSL for the annual Prep Bowl that year. The stadium is only available on Nov. 14 and 15, two weeks earlier than when the league typically holds its seven championship games.Options for 2015 include:-- Playing at other sites, such as the FargoDome or Alerus Center in Grand Forks, N.D.-- Starting the season a week earlier, on Aug. 10, to allow TCF Bank Stadium to host the Prep Bowl on Nov. 14-15.-- Shortening the playoffs by having only four teams from each section qualifying. That option wouldn't affect the Super 32, the division for the largest schools in the state.-- Shortening regular-season to seven games and putting all teams in the playoffs.MSHSL associate director Kevin Merkle and the football advisory committees will continue to research the problem. It will be brought to the board again in December and a decision could be made at the board's meeting in January.A muchmini storageeasier decision for the board was formally approving the 2014 football playoff schedule. Prep Bowl games next season will be played Nov. 21-22 at TCF Bank Stadium.Future football scheduling also continues to be problematic.Merkle, the associate director in charge of football, presented pros and cons of the MSHSL's geographic section scheduling concept. Under such a scenario, schools would be placed in geographic regions with an emphasis on enrollment, competitive balance and maintaining natural rivalries. In other board news:-- Championship Day for the 2014 state baseball tournament is June 14 at Target Field. Monday, June 16 is the backup date.-- The state soccer tournament is likely to be played at St. Cloud State in 2014 and '15, but the board didn't make it official with a vote.-- Chanhassen principal Tim Dorway urged the board to approve a journalism partnership with the Minnesota High School Press Association.-- Tom Johnson was honored for his decades of service as state soccer coordinator. Laura Berg Olsen was recognized for the same role at the state dance team. For updates, check back to .twincities.com.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Pioneer Press (St. Paul, Minn.)
