Source: Milwaukee Journal SentinelNov.迷你倉 16--City officials and Dynacare Laboratories on Saturday launched efforts to learn more about how a flash drive containing the personal information of thousands of city employees and their spouses or domestic partners was taken from a purse inside a stolen car belonging to a Dynacare employee.Dynacare is a health care company that contracts with Froedtert Health Workforce Health in connection with the city's wellness program. Dynacare said Saturday in a statement that it was conducting what it called a comprehensive internal review of its policies and procedures. In addition, Dynacare said it would "reinforce education to its employees on the importance of safeguarding patient information."The flash drive contained personal information, including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and gender. Mayor Tom Barrett said Friday that 6,000 city employees were affected. In addition, the names of approximately 3,000 spouses and domestic partners of those workers also were on the flash drive, but their Social Security numbers were not included.Patrick Curley, Barrett's chief of staff, said since the mayor, Police Chief Edward Flynn and other top administration officials participate in the city's wellness program, he had to assume their personal information was on the flash drive.No financial information, medical records or test results were included in the database.In its statement Saturday, Dynacare did not say how many city employees were affected by the security breach.The security breach came to light late Friday when Froedtert Health Workforce Health notified the city's Department of Employee Relations of the missing flash drive. Froedtert reported that the car of the Dynacare employee was stolen on Oct. 22. The flash drive was in a purse that has not been recovered. The car, which was stolen on an east side street, has been recovered.Dynacare did not say why the incident wasn't reported to city officials sooner."Dynacare is committed to maintaining the privac儲存 and security of the personal information it maintains, and it deeply regrets any inconvenience this may cause its patients," the company statement said. The company added that it had no reason to believe the flash drive was taken for the information it contained or that the information has been used by an unauthorized person.Curley said Barrett had asked Maria Monteagudo, director of the city's Department of Employee Relations, and the city attorney's office to contact both Froedtert Health Workforce Health and Dynacare to obtain a copy of Froedtert's investigation of the incident."And we want to know why the employee was in possession of a flash drive with 9,000-plus records," Curley said.Curley said Barrett also wanted a copy of the Dynacare investigation when it is completed."We want a full accounting and description of the measures and protocol that Froedtert and Dynacare have in place to protect confidentiality of information," Curley said.Thomas Moore, an engineer with Milwaukee Water Works, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he was notified by LifeLock, an identity theft protection company, that someone using Moore's name, date of birth and Social Security number had tried to open a Verizon account on Oct. 22. That is the same day the car was stolen with the flash drive inside. LifeLock was able to stop the transaction."Like everyone else, I'm mad this happened," Moore said Saturday.So is Michael Crivello, president of the Milwaukee Police Association."Our members and all city employees deserve to know exactly what information has been compromised and what measures will be implemented to address and sanction those responsible for such an egregious breach of security," Crivello said."I think we have to as an employer address the concerns of employees," Curley said.
